EPA Green Power Partnership®
DISC is proud to be numbered among the list of EPA Green Power Partnership organizations. This voluntary program, which operates within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, fosters the procurement of “green” power in over 1,300 corporate, educational and government entities. It offers expert advice and technical support as well as the tools and resources to help reduce carbon footprints by purchasing “green” power products.
“Green” power is defined as electricity that is produced through renewable resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and low-impact hydro energy. Each year, member companies collectively purchase nearly 20 billion kilowatt hours of “green” power – the equivalent of annual carbon dioxide emissions from electricity used to power nearly 1.7 million average American homes.
A portion of DISC’s annual electrical usage (approximately 20%) is now derived from “green” power –carbon offset credits in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Our ultimate goal is to increase that percentage to meet more of our energy needs in the foreseeable future.
