Latest design patent expands coverage of the NEO package design and variants

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [May 24, 2017] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today that the company had been granted a fifth U.S. patent for its NEO® Blu-ray Disc® package. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the package’s fifth patent that broadens the coverage of the unique aspects of the NEO package as well as additional product variants. The latest U.S. Patent No. 9,666,230 will issue on May 30, 2017.

“We are very excited to receive a fifth U.S. patent for NEO,” said John Rebecchi, senior vice president, marketing and new business development and director for DISC. “We continue to make every effort to protect our intellectual property in NEO and have expanded the coverage past earlier designs to include a variety of substrates and configurations. The new patent extends the coverage to include additional layers, discs, product configurations and substrates.” The latest NEO package can hold five or six discs, and new structures are being configured for alternative media and credit cards.
