Amanda Palmer Special Box Set
Create a special box set as a non-retail marketing tool to support a promotional campaign to fund new titles for singer/musician Amanda Palmer and her Band. This campaign appeared on the innovative Web site Kickstarter.com, which provides a venue for artists in music, film, video games, art, etc. to advertise for financial backing of new creative work. Individuals or fans can “back” new work by making a donation in return for a specific prize or benefit. Amanda Palmer used this venue to help fund her first independent release and music tour since leaving a major label.
The structural design team worked closely with the client, who supplied graphics and art to develop a container that would meet all objectives for function, form and design impact. The structural design harkened back to the vintage 12” album sleeves and boxes of the past when vinyl records were the music industry standard. (The finished product was 12-1/2” square and 1” deep.) The desired effect was to produce a box that was solid black with silver foil stamping as its only graphic element. The decision was use solid black material in the wrap and chipboard, rather than print solid black on white board, so that there would be no frayed white edges visible. All corners were designed to be exceptionally square, not rounded. DISC worked with the design team to effectively maximize the impact of foil stamping the logo for “Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra.”
The twelve large-format inserts (12” square) were offset printed in 4-color process with an overall matte aqueous coating. The substantial 19.9-point Invercote G paperboard stock chosen by the creative team is known for yielding high print quality results. It is a prime, super-bright European paperboard with a smooth matte finish.
