Pantone Extended Gamut
Extended Gamut refers to an expansion of the colors that can be achieved beyond traditional 4- color process printing. When Orange, Green, and Violet (OGV) inks are added to traditional Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK), the result is a significantly “extended” color gamut and the ability to achieve more rich and vibrant colors when printing. There are 1867 colors listed in the latest Pantone Plus spot color formula guide, and of those, there are 1729 (93%) contained in the Extended Gamut (EG) formula guide. How do the EG formulas compare to the Pantone Plus spot color guide? To answer this question, we took L*A*B readings to determine visible differences expressed as a Delta-E. The results show we can produce significantly better results than CMYK matches for all colors and nearly 80% of the EG colors achieved a ΔE of <= 2.8!
